Ese se refiere, por regla general, a la persona o cosa que está cerca de la persona a quien se habla. Aquel se refiere a la persona o cosa que está más distante. = Ese generally refers to the person or thing that is close to the person speaking. Aquel refers to the person or thing that is more distant.
El adjetivo demostrativo se repite, por regla general, delante de cada nombre a que se refiere. = A demonstrative adjectives is generally repeated before each noun to which it refers.

éste, ésta, esto = this (one)... éstos, éstas = these
ése, ésa, eso = that (one)... ésos, ésas = those
aquél, aquella, aquello = that (one)... aquéllos, aquellas = those
Esto, eso, y aquello son neutros. Se usan para indicar una cosa que no se menciona por su nombre o un idea. No pueden representar nombres, puesto que no hay nombres neutros enespañol. = Esto, eso and aquello are neutral. They are used to indicate a thing that is not mentioned by name or an idea. They cannot represent nouns, since there are no neuter nouns in Spanish.
Nótese que los pronombres demostrativos masculinos y femeninos se distenguen de los adjetivos demostrativos por llevar el acento escrito. Los pronombres demostrativos neutros nunca se usan como adjeteivos y en consecuencia no necesitan el acento. = Note that the masculine and feminine demonstrative pronouns are distinguished by the accent mark. The neuter demonstrative pronouns are never used as adjectives, and therefore do not need the accent mark.
